Women In The Industry
Promoting Female Engineers: It’s not just for the lads anymore!
At Anglia Heating Training we believe in equal opportunity. Something we are very passionate about is encouraging more women to take that first step into the gas industry. Whether you have always had an interest in heating systems, using your hands as well as your mind or you just want to break away from the female stereotypes, we are the centre for you!
We are proud to say that we have had multiple female engineers through our doors, with two more currently working through their MLP courses.
17 years ago, Sarah began her journey into the gas industry, stepping away from a background of Army electrics and mechanical work. Having grown up in an engineering family, always being surrounded by tools and taking part in hands-on activities Sarah has always had a drive for figuring out how things work and what it takes to fix them. After spending 16 years qualified, and on the tools, building a reputation for herself and creating strong relationships throughout the community she decided to use her knowledge and experience to step into the training and assessing side. After joining our team just over a year ago, Sarah has gained invaluable insight into what it is to oversee a multitude of engineers gaining and renewing their qualifications. it is an honour for our company to have a strong-headed female in this role, being able to share her story, wisdom and training and assessing skills.
Encouraging words from Sarah to any women that are thinking about joining the industry ‘If you’re in the right mindset, there is nothing that will stop you.’
Say Hello to Jodie and Jasmine! Our two wonderful girls currently in centre sitting there domestic MLP courses. Proof that women from any background just need the confidence and support to make a start. Luckily for them, ‘We train confidence’! This is there first time in centre, working with domestic appliances and being taught by our wonderful trainers and assessors. Our MLP courses are highly recommended for anyone who is wanting to start a career in the gas and heating industry. As a company and team, we feel privileged to have these lovely women walk through our doors for 3 days a month, showing dedication to the course, their hands-on abilities and watching their knowledge expand. Working toward their Gas Diplomas, they are working through 12 modules, learning elements from Legislation, Health & Safety to tightness testing, pipework installation and installation and servicing of Domestic Appliances; both Cooking and Space Heating.
Day by day these women are showing that female stereotypes mean nothing when you have an interest and want to learn. As they come to the end of there in-centre training we wish them the best of luck in building their portfolios, putting what they’ve learnt into practice and making us proud. It’s not easy to step out of a comfort zone and challenge a male-dominated industry, but if you are interested in anything gas, heating or oil related, don’t hesitate to make an enquiry. The more women we can help into the industry, the better! Bring on your game faces, an open mind, willingness to learn and speak up when things don’t quite click in your head the first time around. At Anglia Heating Training not a single question isn’t worth asking; we want you to walk out feeling ready, excited and most importantly competent.
